Needham B. Broughton High School is a Global Studies & Language Immersion Magnet school that serves approximately 2,100 students and is a top-tier Nationally Certified Demonstration-Level Magnet School and a Magnet Schools of America School of Distinction.

In the last seven years, Broughton has had 6 Morehead-Cain Scholars (UNC), 1 Benjamin Duke Scholar (Duke), 4 Park Scholars (NCSU), 1 Carswell Scholar (Wake Forest), and 1 Ingram Scholar (Vanderbilt).

 

Arts

Students at Broughton have the opportunity to participate in a broad range of Arts including Visual Art, Computer Art, Theatre, Dance, Vocal Music and Instrumental Music. 

 

Athletics

Broughton student athletes compete in the 4A Conference and offers 36 teams in 19 different sports, including, but not limited to: Tennis, Golf, Swim/Dive Teams, Lacrosse, Cross Country, Soccer, Wrestling, Football, Cheerleading, Basketball, Baseball, Softball and Volleyball.

Broughton faculty include 198 total staff members, 152 certified staff members, 24 National Board certified teachers and 63% of staff members have 5+ years of experience in Education. 

 

Community Service

The Community Service Program at Broughton is designed to teach citizenship skills and the value of serving others. Service is a value firmly positioned in the mission of the school. All students are required to perform 25 hours of service each year as a graduation requirement.

Students at Broughton enjoy a rich and wide array of opportunities to participate in extracurricular activities, including our annual Homecoming Parade, the Queen of Hearts assembly, Class Council, Song A Grams, and over 50 student led clubs.

Located in the heart of Raleigh, NC, Needham B. Broughton is one of the oldest of 27 high schools in the Wake County Public School System. In 1929, Broughton began a tradition of excellence that continues today. As Wake County’s Global Studies/Language Immersion magnet high school, Broughton offers innovative global learning experiences that inspire students to be thoughtful, reflective, service-minded citizens who enjoy learning and contribute effectively within the local-to-global community. We are proud to offer the benefits of a large, comprehensive high school combined with diverse opportunities for students to find their niche, form lasting friendships, and engage meaningfully in academic, athletic, and artistic endeavors.
